Piano Accordion

Object ID: 2014.17.1

This Hohner L'Orgnola Accordion, was owned and used by musician Peter Pearson, who arrived in Powell River in 1927 to work at the Powell River Company pulp and paper mill. Peter had an old button accordion and wished for a piano accordion. His wife Astrid saved up $500, which was a lot of money in the depression days, and bought it for him. His music gave much pleasure to many, especially to his two sons Tommy (donor of the artifact) and Rudy. Rudolph (Rudy) Pearson was a long time contributor to the Powell River Historical Museum and Archives.

Rudolph Norman Pearson was born in 1933, of Norwegian descent. Rudy began his illustrious career as a Powell River Mill worker. It would seem that the apple did not fall from the tree, as he chose a profession in hair dressing, where he could express his artistic creativity, like his father Peter. Rudy served the board of the Powell River Museum and the Olive Devaud Home Society, as he was proudly conscious of his community. Rudolph Pearson passed away peacefully on September 15th, 2020, he will be remembered for his kindness, fun-loving spirit, and entertaining hospitality.
