Historic Photos
With approximately 200,000 historic photographs and negatives in the archival collections, these historic images serve as a tangible representation of the region's heritage. Historic images have been organized into curated topical and subject based groupings. Check back regularly for new entries.

The digital images are created by the Powell River Historical Museum & Archives (PRHMA) and the PRHMA owns the copyright for these digital images. All images are covered under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 2.5 Canada License.
These images can be used for personal or research use without the need for prior permission from the PRHMA. Any other use, including, but not limited to, commercial or scholarly reproductions, redistribution, publication, or transmission whether by electronic means or otherwise without prior written permission from the PRHMA is prohibited. The PRHMA will grant or withhold permission on a case-by-case basis.
Acceptable uses for the images are:

Neighbourhoods
The history of the settlement of the qathet Regional District reaches much further back in time than the photographic images showcased under the following regional and community headings. The neighbourhoods and communities featured are located on the traditional territory of the Tla’amin Nation. Archaeological evidence indicates that the Tla’amin culture occupied the region for at least 7,600 years. The following groupings of images are from the much more recent past of the late 19th and 20th centuries, and focus on the settler communities in the region.

Businesses
While industry was dominated in the qathet Regional District by the activities and enterprises of the Powell River Company over the years, the success of the region was ensured by the many businesses, many privately owned and operated, that provided goods and services to the communities within the region. The following groupings of images feature some of the businesses that operated in the region.

Schools
From the first schools on Texada Island in 1898 to the modern Brooks Secondary School on Marine Avenue, the qathet Regional District has a long history of providing education for its most youthful community members, A lot has changed since Powell River's first classroom was held in a pool room in 1911. With the exception of the old 'Henderson' School (1913), Brooks Elementary (1926) and Stillwater United (1937) most of the early schools had no electricity or running water. The following groupings of images, categorized by school, chronicle the history of the educational institutions and the individuals who attended them.
